The middle finger was once a gesture that people used to express their dislike or hatred for another, however this once "fight starting" gesture has become almost as routine as a handshake. When a group of young men (16-25) enter a club, they take a picture by a professional photographer who no longer instructs his subjects to smile, because he's not going to get one out of anyone. The group will all put on their "hardest" faces, as if they're not having a good time, and at least one person will show straight disrespect to the photographer and say "Fuck You!" by lifting up his middle finger, while another person is showing his sign of peace by lifting up his index and middle finger. Isn't there something wrong with that picture? Is the person mad because they just paid the photographer $10 for the picture or do they feel that this gesture best describes their swag? I want answers to this question.
I'm attempting to end this trend and open up people's minds to find new gestures to use in a picture. If you don't have a squad sign to throw up, try to create a sign that might catch on with others. All trends must come to an end, but someone has to be man enough to end them. So next time you enter the club, make that $10 picture worth the money you pay for it. Try a new approach for the rest of 2009 & in 2010!
